Who doesn’t love a lil throwback on a Thursday? ‘The Nostalgia Edit’ – Glossy-style! Put down your Nintendo Gameboy Colour, take those butterfly clips out your hair, shut that Furby up that’s screaming even though it has no batteries in, and pull up a seat. ‘Cus the PC has almost finished dialling up and you are about to get a totally retro GlossyBox review. Oh, hang on.. still dialling. Could be a while..
I spent 6 years of my life in the 90’s, so I can still class myself as a ‘90’s kid’ right? The 90’s will always be a part of me, I’m part of you indefinitely, boy don’t you know you can’t escape me, ooh darling ‘cause you’ll always be my babyyyyyy. YES, those Mariah Carey lyrics were called for.
Criteria for a 90’s kid:
- Eyebrows must be precisely 1mm in thickness
- Baby hair must be gelled to your forehead/face
- Lipliner.. AT LEAST 4 shades darker than your lipstick
- That crimped hair better be stuck to your lip-gloss
- That wacky spiky up-do better be poking someone’s eye out
- Glittery eyeshadow – as bright as possible please
- And just to ensure you are the baddest girl out there – you better be rocking those flat twists and a one-sleeve top
Luckily, GlossyBox has put a fresh twist on beauty throughout the decades with their April box. Scrap the disastrous trends. They have taken inspiration from the biggest beauty icons throughout history who we all love and adore. My favourite beauty icons have to be from the 50’s and 60’s. We’re talking Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy to name a few. This months box gives you all you need to create beautiful retro looks. Plus a Carmex lip balm, cause it wouldn’t be retro without a Carmex lip balm right?!
What a gorgeous blush/highlighter. It leaves a lovely subtle shimmer on your skin, and the pressed powder is a nice consistency to work with. I would probably use this as a highlighter rather than a blush, but it looks lovely for both. Definitely one of my favourites from this month’s box.
Overall I am super happy with the products in my box. I am a self-confessed make-up addict, so the fact there was so much make-up in it was a real bonus for me! Keep an eye out for next month’s box – something really special is on its way!
My brain can’t actually register that in 3 years the 90’s started 30 years ago. There’s still so many unanswered questions. Team Biggie or team Tupac? Does anyone actually know any lyrics that follow ‘HEYYY MACARENAAA’? Was it Lime-wire pushed your computer to breaking point?!
